John Jacob Nevitt scrapbook, 1861-1864.

This collection consists of John Jacob Nevitt's scrapbook. Most of the clippings in it relate to the Civil War. Some are poems of the period, articles of general interest, jokes, household hints, literature and history. Included near the back of the book is a small broadside, "Ode, by Henry Timrod. Sung on the Occasion of Decorating the Graves of the Confederate Dead, at Magnolia, Charleston, S.C." Most of the clippings are undated.

John Jacob Nevitt (ca. 1848-ca. 1918), architect, was born in Savannah, Georgia. He attended the Georgia Military Institute in Marietta, Georgia. The cadets were called out in the fall of 1864 to join the Confederate States Army. Nevitt was in Company B of the Georgia Cadets and served with them until he mustered out in the spring of 1865.
